Through this project, I aimed to shed light on the various family structures that exist today, particularly in urban environments such as Berlin, where traditional heteronormative family models are no longer the norm. Through my research and discussions with people from various backgrounds, I encountered a wide range of families, each with their own unique history and dynamics. I spoke with patchwork families, single parents, same-sex parents, and "chosen families". I learned about residence, alternating and nest models, in which children either grow up in several households or remain in one fixed place while the parents rotate. Through photography, I aimed to document these diverse family structures and demonstrate the various forms that family can take. The project is not yet finished.
